Cabinetry in Columbia, TN - Getting on With Your Life!

One of the things that I like best about Columbia is its people. Everyone who works for the company is very friendly and does a great job. My husband works at Columbia, so I have had a lot of experience with their staff. There are plenty of advantages to the career I've chosen, but I can't help but feel that it is a big step up from the life I lead now.

The truth is that the life I lead now would not qualify as "having the true definition of 'it' " because it's not so much working as it is watching the clock tick by. When I first started at Columbia, I thought that since they were all retired and had loads of free time, they would be happy to help me out. I knew they would, because I had grown up on their payroll.

Now, however, I understand that this type of life would be hard to maintain when you are not the parent or grandparent for your kids. I knew that if I wanted to be productive at work, I needed to get to them as soon as possible. So, I focused on trying to be less of a slave to the clock.

One of the first things I did was try to come up with ways that I could stay home with my family more. Even though I am getting old, that is a very rare thing to find today. Most of us live alone. It's pretty hard to find older couples that want to spend as much time with their children as they used to.

The second thing I did was start trying to figure out ways to use the educational material I used to listen to with my kids. I still do the "KIDS" radio shows on cassette, but I bought a new iPod with the SoundJam Technology feature. I also listened to a few CDs. For the most part, the only educational things that are done by technology are the ones that can be done on the computer.

The third thing I did was change the housekeeping stuff. I don't have to clean for Columbia anymore, so I simply let them pick the dirty stuff. They take care of their own kitchen, bathroom, and everything else in the house.

The fourth thing I did was go out a spend some time on the golf course. There are times when I just feel like I want to go hit the golf ball around the yard. There is nothing wrong with that, except that there isn't anybody else around. It's as if I have my own little playground out in the open.

These days, I am much happier than I have ever been in my life. I don't know if I will ever go back to the life I was living before I started working for Columbia, but I'm glad I did the extra mile to improve myself.
